Gail Schubot named president of fire board
Houston business
and franchise attorney Gail Schubot was elected the first woman
president of the board of directors by the member of the Cy-Fair
Volunteer Fire Department in September.
She begins a
two-year term as president of the largest volunteer/combination
fire department in the country.
The Cy-Fair
Volunteer Fire Department is responsible for all fire, rescue and
emergency medical responses in a territory encompassing more than
167 square miles of northwest Harris County, which includes more
than 300,000 residents.
With 375 volunteer
firefighters, 200 employees, 11 fire stations and a 12th under construction,
the department responds to nearly 20,000 emergency calls per year.
Taxing authority
Emergency Services District No. 9 contracts with the fire department
to provide emergency services for the community and underwrites
its $13 million operating budget.
Schubot joined
the department as a volunteer in 2000 and is a state-certified firefighter
and EMT basic and continues to serve as chauffeur and fire engine
crew member at her assigned stations where she has previously been
awarded station honors including firefighter and EMS member of the
year.
She has held
the position of vice president of the department's board of directors
for the past four years.
Together with
David Grimes, a Chevron geophysicist and newly elected board vice
president, they assume responsibility for the administration of
the department.
With her law
firm located in the same vicinity as the fire department's headquarters,
she divides her time between her business clients and the community,
both requiring her support and assistance in times of need.
